Management by Objectives (MbO)


Once each year, employees and their superior take part in a personal dialogue session for the purpose of assessing the extent to which they have achieved the goals they have set for themselves in consultation with their supervisors over the course of the year. Emphasis is placed in these interviews on constructive dialogue and recognition of the employee’s contribution to specific projects and the success of the organization as a whole. Mutual

respect, which enables participants on both sides to express themselves in a clear and constructive manner, is a vital prerequisite for these interviews. In addition to setting new goals, the process also involves a discussion of opportunities for further development within the organization and the possible support available to individual employees.
