Team Rynkeby: Gear shifting to local tours
The corona situation across Europe has forced the largest European charity project Team Rynkeby to shift plans: Instead of cycling to Paris, there will be national tours in the participating countries for the second year in a row. Eckes-Granini stands completely behind the change of destination in order to be able to continue raising money for seriously ill children: "It was our wish for all riders that the joint tour could take place," says Tim Berger, CEO of the Eckes-Granini Group. “However, we support the team’s national tours and are very happy about their unbroken commitment to raise funds for seriously ill children. Our thanks also go to all the partners and sponsors who remain loyal to the project and, in some cases, even join us in these difficult times.”
The right change for the good cause
In mid-July, more than 2,500 cyclists and volunteers representing the charity initiative Team Rynkeby were expected to reach Paris in their yellow jerseys in an effort to collect money and raise awareness for children with critical illnesses. During its 20 years, the project has raised more than 60 million Euros for this good cause already.
“All of us had been looking forward to the trip to Paris very much, especially after last year´s cancellation”, says Ivan Thyregod, Team Rynkeby Foundation Chairman and General Manager of Rynkeby Food A/S. But we cannot jeopardize the health and safety of our great participants or the people we meet on our journey, in any way.”
New destinations: Team Rynkeby raises funds locally
Now the 2,500 participants are shifting gears - local instead of cross-border: “With all the uncertainty we’re facing due to the virus, our decision making also relies heavily on a wish to make sure our participants will have an experience for life and we’re able to continue putting children with critical illnesses on the agenda. Hence, we’re shifting our attention to a national tour setup”, Ivan Thyregod continues.
Therefore, the Country Managers in the eight countries already have advanced plans for the teams to start their tours in their respective countries in week 28 – hugely important to continue the charity work. The most important message is the continuation: to raise money for seriously ill children in a new and Corona-conforming way.
