The Eckes Family Foundation provides support for charitable projects within the framework of the International Charity Project every year. Projects are submitted for consideration by employees from the 80 countries in which Eckes-Granini is represented.
A project in French Polynesia was among the winners of support in 2019. For many years, the Conseil de femmes de la Polynésie, a local women’s organization, has been establishing emergency shelters for women and children who have experienced domestic violence.
One such shelter is the Pu O Te Hau Centre, to which the Eckes Family Foundation has recently donated 20,000 euros. Trained social workers at the Centre help women regain confidence in their own abilities, learn job skills and thus gain a measure of self-reliance. “The donation enables us to offer new courses in such subjects as sewing and self-defence and we can now look forward to renovating our shelter so that women and children will feel safer and more at home there”, explains Rowena Tuhoe, Director of the Pu O Te Hau Centre.
